Fire, Rescue and EMS Equipment Donations

Spring Cleaning at the Firehouse? Updating your Fleet?

That dusty equipment in the back of your station and those older vehicles you are replacing can have a new life as front line equipment in Guatemala. Why auction them off for pennies on the dollar when they can continue to do the job for which they were intended – protecting the lives and property of our neighbors to the south.

Your serviceable equipment or apparatus is worth it’s weight in gold in Central America. That Ambulance that has seen a few miles – we can use it. Those old turnouts you are mandated to replace? Yes, those too. SCBA’s, hand tools, boots, helmets… all the things we take for granted can be put to good use by those who have the will to do the job, but not the resources.

AMEDICAusa has a long relationship with the emergency services in Guatemala, and we will make sure your kind donation goes where it will do the most good.

AMEDICAusa, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt Public Charity. (IRS # 81-0842688). We do not ever sell equipment, nor supply it to those who do. All donations are shipped to Guatemala and donated, without cost, directly to the Fire Departments and Rescue Services we serve, along with the appropriate training for its safe and effective use. We are happy to come and talk to you about our programs on request. Call, email or message us at Facebook anytime.

Fire and EMS in Guatemala Depends on Equipment Donations

“New” fire, rescue and EMS equipment in Guatemala has almost always seen previous service in the U.S. or Canada. In a country where the station doors are kept open only by the hard work of raising funds a few Quetzales at a time (a Quetzal – the Guatemalan currency – is about 13 cents usd) there is precious little left to purchase equipment, much less apparatus and vehicles.

That’s where you come in. Your equipment donations keep these men and women out doing the job and helps improve the lives of countless Guatemalans who depend on them day to day, and in the event of disaster.

We Make It Easy To Do

Just contact us. In most cases we’ll come and pick up your donation, or, where that is not logistically possible, arrange for it’s shipping. All donations will be receipted and documented as needed, and we will provide the necessary I.R.S. documentation where required (usually required for vehicles and boats donated by private parties or corporations).  Want to see your donation in action? Just let us know and we will provide you with photos or video of your equipment in use at it’s new home. Better yet, come on down and visit the department where it went. Become a “sister” department  to the service to which you donated!

Tax Advantages

For private parties and corporations, such as Ambulance Companies, there may be significant tax advantages to your donation. Unlike many non-profit donations, because your equipment or vehicles will be used, not sold, you may be able to deduct the full Fair Market Value for your donation, rather than just what it might bring at a wholesale auction. Check with your tax advisor.

For other 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, such as many volunteer fire departments and rescue squads, your donation is allowed as we are also a recognized non-profit. If your service is being dissolved, for whatever reason, please consider transferring your apparatus and equipment to us to satisfy legal or I.R.S. requirements.

You Are Giving Much More Than Your Equipment Donations

AMEDICAusa doesn’t just drop off your equipment to it’s new home. Each agency who receives equipment from us also gets the training needed to operate it safely and effectively.  Our instructors go the the receiving agencies home to offer hands-on instruction and drills that assure it will be used to good effect. AMEDICAusa and it’s partners also provide an annual Fire /Rescue / EMS academy in Guatemala City to assist the responders. You aren’t just aiding us… but citizens throughout Guatemala and Central America.
