Volunteer in Guatemala with AMEDICAusa and change your life.

Want to be Important In Someone’s Life?

No matter your profession, AMEDICAusa can use your talents in our programs to aid the poor and indigenous of Guatemala. We have opportunities for you to partner with us in all three of our major efforts, in one of the most beautiful countries on earth.

You Can Make a Difference as a Volunteer

Not just a tourist trip, if you volunteer with us, we’ll put you to work. Real efforts that make a real difference. You’ll be up close and personal with the true Guatemala. Whether it’s treating patients, delivering educational supplies and basic health classes to school children, or providing training and equipment to Emergency Service personnel, you aren’t just along for the ride.

School Missions

The basic program of our educational support mission, you will be involved in delivering educational supplies directly into the hands of the receiving children and teachers in rural village schools. Without these supplies, many of the children would not be able to attend school. No better opportunity exists for getting to know the real people of Guatemala. Depending on the schools, you may also be involved in school improvement projects, basic health education and/or sanitation/water projects. These trips are not generally physically arduous and are appropriate for family groups. No specific expertise is required, just the desire to help some of the poorest people in the hemisphere.read more image

Medical Volunteers

Medical Missions typically involve working with patients either in a clinic setting, alongside a Guatemalan physician, or as part of a medical brigade. There may be occasions where opportunities exist for work in the more challenging settings further afield, such as accompanying a MEDCAP mission into the rural reaches of Guatemala. Current State or Provincial Licensure / Certification, in good standing, is required for these missions. Open to Physicians, R.N.’s and Paramedics, these missions provide the opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of the poor and indigenous, as well as to learn a great deal about the health problems of Central America. CE/Recertification credits may be available, and documentation will be provided as needed.read more image

Fire, EMS and Disaster Relief

Delivering equipment, training and working alongside Guatemala’s first responders in case of disaster is an important part of AMEDICAusa‘s mission. In a land where disaster is common, and resources are few, trained and motivated instructors/responders can really make a difference. Volunteers in these programs train with Guatemalan Fire Departments, bringing their expertise directly to those who can most benefit.  Don’t be surprised if you learn a few new twists too. Know HAZ-MAT? Good at extrication?  Expert at delivering babies? Wildland firefighter? PHTLS? Are you just a good firefighter who would like to share your knowledge? No matter your particular expertise, we can use you. The firefighters and Paramedics of Guatemala are, like good first responders everywhere, eager to learn and to share what they know.read more image
